Steven is the rehearsal pianist for the dance department of the Metropolitan Opera. He has been in the spotlight of the ballet world since he began accompanying in 1989 in Dallas when he was recording for Bodarc Productions. Since those years, he was in residence at Boston Ballet School, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, and Dutch National Ballet.
Music for Ballet isn't music for simply listening, it is for working. To be a great accompanist, a pianist must know the shape and "sound" of each step. Knowing how to translate that into music is a craft that takes many years to develop. A familiar tune is a wonderful thing, but it has to be played in a character that supports the step.
